WINNIPEG – President of the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF), David Chartrand wants to extend congratulations to Manitoba, the province founded by Metis leader Louis Riel and his supporters, on its 140th birthday. On May 12, 1870, Manitoba joined the Confederation after negotiations between the Metis Provisional Government and Canada.

Today, President Chartrand expressed his pride in being a Manitoban and Canadian, and of course, a citizen of the Metis Nation. "All Manitobans should be proud of this wonderful province founded by our ancestors and built by the many people who have settled here since," said Chartrand. "As the Metis Nation continues to grow stronger, this only means greater prosperity for all Manitobans as we work together to make this the best place to live and raise our families."

Today marks the start of a series of Manitoba Homecoming events taking place throughout the rest of the week with the official provincial 140th birthday party to be celebrated in Neepawa on Saturday, May 15th.

WINNIPEG –  David Chartrand, le président de la fédération Métisse du Manitoba aimerais féliciter la province du Manitoba sur son 140^e anniversaire. La province a été fondée par le chef des Métis Louis-Riel et son soutient. Le 12 mai 1870, le Manitoba s’inscrit à la confédération après des négociations avec le gouvernement Métisse et le Canada. 

Aujourd’hui, David Chartrand le président, a exprimé sa fierté d’être un citoyen Manitobain, Canadien et surtout un citoyen de la nation Métisse. « Tous les Manitobains devrait être fière de cette merveilleuse province fondée par nos ancêtres et bâti par tous ceux et celles qui ont venus ici depuis, » nous rencontre Chartrand. « Autant que la nation Métisse continuent à grandir plus fort ca donne plus de prospérité à toute les Manitobains, tant que nous travaillons ensemble pour que cette province devient la meilleure place pour vivre et élevé une famille.» 

Aujourd’hui marque le début d’une série d’évènement pour la fête de retour du Manitoba qui prends place durant la semaine. Le 140^e anniversaire officiel sera le 15 mai 2010 à Neepawa.
