Manitoba and Canada Present Final Arguments in Historic Case
Winnipeg – Today the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) land claim court case entered into its final two weeks as the Canada and Manitoba Governments present their final arguments. Canada’s final arguments are expected to wrap up either Thursday July 20th or Friday July 21st. Manitoba’s final arguments are expected to be brief – beginning on Monday July 24th and ending on Tuesday, July 25th.
The MMF has already presented its final arguments but will have a chance to offer concluding remarks immediately following Manitoba. The MMF’s concluding remarks are expected to begin Wednesday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. All proceedings are being held at the Manitoba Law Courts, 408 York Ave, in Winnipeg.
“For over a quarter of a century the MMF, on behalf of the Manitoba Metis Community, has been pursuing this court action against the Federal and Provincial Governments,” said MMF President David Chartrand. “Our years of struggle have brought us this far. The Metis People have been historically wronged and have faced a great injustice for generations. This case is another step towards resolving this long standing grievance.”
