WINNIPEG
– Manitoba Metis Federation President David Chartrand had a very positive reaction towards the Government of Manitoba’s speech from the throne to mark the official opening of the fifth session of the thirty-ninth legislature. This follows the announcement on Monday of a Metis specific Policy and the acknowledgement of Louis Riel’s provisional government as the first Legislature of Manitoba, with Riel as the first official premier.

“I am very pleased and encouraged with the Manitoba government’s recognition in yesterday’s throne speech of Metis-specific issues that need to be addressed in the months and years ahead” said President Chartrand. “We look forward to moving all partnerships forward with Premier Selinger on a variety of fronts which in the long term will benefit not only our Metis citizens but all Manitobans as well.”
