Red River Métis artist nominated for six Manitoba Country Music Awards
Catie St. Germain is one of many talented Red River Métis artists nominated for the
2023 Manitoba Country Music Awards.
With the recent announcement of the Manitoba Country Music Award (MCMA) nominations, the Manitoba Métis Federation is excited to see so many of our talented Red River Métis artists nominated. Spanning a variety of categories, nominations have included our very own Brandi Vezina, Morgan Grace, Mitchell Makoons, Troy Flamand, Michael Audette, Daniel Désorcy, Rylan Knaggs, Brad Moggie, and Catie St. Germain.
Known for her extraordinary talent in the Red River Métis music scene, Catie St. Germain is making a name for herself in the world of country music.
"I'm completely honoured and don't take these nominations lightly. I'm so happy to carry on my grandpa's legacy of performing and I ultimately hope to make my entire family proud," she said of her music legend grandfather, Ray St. Germain. "I already feel like I've won."
Last year, the artist was nominated in the MCMA's cover artist category.
"After being in the room and seeing all these amazing musicians, many of which I have been lucky enough to share the stage with in the cover world, sharing their original art completely inspired me to try writing," said St. Germain.
The musician recorded her first original song, "The Taxman," this past spring.
"I knew I had my sights set on coming back in one of the original categories, but I didn't want to get my hopes too high," she said.
The proud mother of three's music is inspired by her family.
"My oldest has down syndrome and he really is my inspiration. I want him to believe he can do anything he works hard at," said St. Germain. "So, I figured I better go first!"
The Red River Métis musician has had great success with her single, which has only built her confidence as an artist.
"The response was overwhelming," she said, "And after over 10,000 streams I started to think of myself as more of a songwriter and performer and haven't looked back."
St. Germain is nominated in six categories, the most of any artist nominated at the MCMAs.
"While I know it's a tall order going up against so many incredible people, I'm just so proud of myself for trying and setting that example for my kids and anyone who struggles to think they're not going to be good enough," she said.
The MCMAs bring together the province's largest country music community, with many of Manitoba's top country acts performing throughout the night. Fans will have the chance to vote for their favourite artists, with the prestigious awards given to the highest voted performer.
The Manitoba Country Music Awards will be held at Club Regent Casino and Event Centre on November 4, 2023. Visit manitobacma.com for more information.
