The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Natural Resources Technician positions within our Energy, Infrastructure & Resource Management Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Natural Resources Technician will help triage and assess Red River Métis Harvester inquiries pertaining to the Métis Laws of the Harvest and section 35 Métis Harvesting rights and responsibilities.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Assist with research and development on a variety of natural resources related matters;
  • Research and draft applications for project related funding opportunities;
  • Work collaboratively with other MMF staff and departments to coordinate and implement various programs and initiatives;
  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with Red River Métis Harvesters regarding Métis harvesting rights and responsibilities;
  • Engage with Red River Métis Citizens and Harvesters to inform them of potential plans and projects that may impact Métis harvesting rights;
  • Continually advocate for Métis involvement in the economic benefits of a project or initiative;
  • Attend community workshops and meetings, and coordinate the facilitation of meetings, etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Studies, Resource Management, or equivalent education will be considered;
  • Experience in policy and program development;
  • Previous experience working in an office preferably with an Indigenous organization and/or government;
  • Proven skills and experience with managing a heavy workload and many projects at one time;
  • Previous experience in data research, analysis, and presentation, including report writing;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
