The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Program Assistant position within our Culture & Heritage Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Program Assistant will provide support to the Director through assisting with the implementation and coordination of the department's cultural programs and services for Red River Métis Citizens.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Draft correspondence such as funding proposals, briefing notes, e-mails, letters and reports;
- Attend meetings, take notes, and draft follow-up as necessary;
- Create, plan, schedule and attend Red River Métis culture and heritage related events throughout the year;
- Assist in event management and production, including virtual content and the Red River Métis Music Van;
- Manage department calendar;
- Increase awareness and knowledge of Red River Métis heritage, culture, and history;
- Engage and assist Citizens and Minister responsible;
- Research assigned department initiatives and historic information;
- Assist with management of department financials and physical resources;
- Complete purchase orders, cheque requisitions and travel claims.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or relevant field; equivalent experience and training may be considered;
- Experience as a Program Assistant or relevant position;
- Knowledge of program management and development procedures;
- Experience in preparing funding proposals for social service projects and programs;
- Excellent communication skills including experience drafting correspondence and preparing reports;
- Experience in a computerized office environment with a proven ability with Microsoft Office;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
