The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one casual Registered Dietician position within our Health and Wellness Department located in Winnipeg, MB. The Registered Dietician will provide nutrition counseling and support to Métis citizens. The dietitian will also provide education and support to enhance awareness of the role nutrition plays in managing diabetes, chronic health and improving overall health of the Red River Métis Citizens.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Educate and support Red River Métis Citizens in nutritional principles, diet, food selection and economics;
  • Evaluate nutritional care and provide follow up continuity of care plans to ensure nutrition needs are met;
  • Develop and provide nutritional training to staff and citizens (e.g. grocery options, diabetes training, healthy eating habits, etc.);
  • Encourage self-determination and family participation in healthy practices;
  • Adapt teaching plans to individual lifestyle and education of the citizens;
  • Manage MMF citizen files and chart accordingly along side of the Clinical Services Team;
  • Act as a nutritional resource;
  • Proposal writing and compiling reports;
  • Work with diverse Red River Métis Citizens across Manitoba and Beyond Borders including gender minorities, and all cultural, spiritual, political, age, ability, family, and economic circumstances;
  • Travel to the communities as needed to provide support.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietician with the College of Dieticians of Manitoba;
  • Experience working with an indigenous community in a clinical setting is an asset;
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
