February 19, 2025
The Manitoba Métis Federation, National Government of the Red River Métis, in collaboration with the Brandon Wheat Kings, has designed culturally inspired jerseys that will be showcased at the Brandon Wheat Kings vs. Prince Albert Raiders Louis Riel Day game.
The Manitoba Métis Federation is a sponsor of the game, which takes place on February 18th, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba.
The Brandon Wheat Kings were the first Western Hockey League team in the league to host a Louis Riel Day game, which has now become an annual occurrence, and sees teams throughout the league alternating who hosts the game on the actual holiday.
"Working with the Brandon Wheat Kings to design these jerseys has been a great experience," said representative of the Southwest Region, MMF Minister Will Goodon. "The MMF does so much for Red River Métis Youth in sports, so to have a professional team showcasing our rich culture through these jerseys has been a great opportunity. I look forward to seeing how our Youth react to these jerseys at the game."
Following the game, jerseys will be available for purchase via auction, and all proceeds with go to Red River Métis Youth supports in the Southwest region. The jerseys have been designed to showcase cultural Red River Métis beadwork and a traditional sash.
