MMF celebrates grand opening of MEDOCare Pharmacy in Dauphin

August 9, 2024

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, announced the opening of MEDOCare Pharmacy in Dauphin with a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony.

With one pharmacy already in operation and in high demand at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, this second pharmacy will also offer a full range of services, including free delivery to Dauphin and surrounding communities. The pharmacy is open to all, and it will work closely with the MMF Health & Wellness Department to deliver Prescription Drug Program (PDP), flu clinics, and other community health initiatives for Citizens.

"We are so proud to open our second MEDOCare Pharmacy here in the sunshine city of Dauphin," said Frances Chartrand, Vice-President of the Northwest Region, and MMF Minister of Health and Wellness, and Early Learning and Child Care. "People from Dauphin and the surrounding communities will benefit from this pharmacy, as well as the programs and services it offers. I know that the free delivery service, the quality care offered by the staff, and the familiarity and comfort of coming to our Regional Office for pharmacy care will make a positive contribution to our Citizens and the broader community. Our Elders and seniors in the Northwest Region told us they wanted a MEDOCare Pharmacy in Dauphin, and as the Red River Métis Government, we responded and made it happen."

The MMF opened its first pharmacy in Winnipeg in 2012, with a goal of providing quality support and service to all customers. In 2017, the MMF launched the Prescription Drug Program, to pay for eligible Elder and senior Citizens' deductibles for Pharmacare-eligible prescription drugs. As we continue to open more pharmacies, our ability to expand on programs also grows.

A third pharmacy is expected to open in Selkirk, once the 55+ apartment complex on Eveline Street is complete.

"I am so proud of our pharmacies, and their ongoing and significant growth in prescription demand," said David Chartrand, President of the MMF. "We look forward to serving everyone in Dauphin, and all communities, reserves and towns in the region with good, friendly service. Our pharmacies aren't just client-centric and dedicated to providing quality care, they are an investment into the health and well-being of our Elders and seniors. Every pharmacy we open represents an opportunity to expand the programs and services we can support, as well as giving people who live near them or in surrounding communities a Manitoban owned and operated option for their pharmacy needs. It's a proud day for our Nation and our government, and I look forward to seeing our pharmacy in Dauphin become a familiar and welcoming part of the community and the region."
