MMF sponsoring Radiothon in support of St. Boniface Hospital Foundation
November 26, 2020
Winnipeg, MB - The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is once again sponsoring the Radiothon for St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. While the Radiothon has taken place at the St. Boniface Hospital in past years, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year's event will be virtual. The Vickar Goes Virtual Radiothon of Hope and Healing, presented by the Vickar Automotive Group, will air on 680 CJOB from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., as well as Peggy 99.1 and Power 97 from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday, November 27, 2020.
The MMF Matching Hour, where listeners will be encouraged to call in and match the MMF's $5,000 donation, will take place from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
Last year, the Manitoba Metis Heritage Fund (MMHF), the MMF's non-profit charitable entity, presented a $75,000 cheque to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation from funds raised at the MMHF's annual gala held on Manitoba Day, matching the MMF's past donation for a total of $150,000. The proceeds were earmarked for the Youth BIOlab at the hospital, which creates space for students and teachers to explore and experience real biomedical science.
"We are very pleased to once again be able to donate to the Youth BIOlab, and that during these trying times, we can still give back to worthy causes like this one," said MMF President David Chartrand. "I implore you - if you have any bit of funds to give, please call in between 11:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. to make your donation."
President Chartrand will join 680 CJOB for a live telephone interview at 11:05 A.M., along with Steve Jones, director of the Youth BIOlab.
The RBC Youth BIOlab at St. Boniface Hospital Albrechtsen Research Centre is North America's most unique biomedical teaching lab, focused on community outreach to inspire youth towards a love for science and discovery.
"The MMF will continue to ensure Youth have the supports, resources, and education they need to succeed and thrive," added President Chartrand. "We hope this donation helps more Youth develop a passion for science and medicine."
The MMF encourages anyone who is financially able to call in and give what they can to support patient care, medical research, and health literacy at St. Boniface Hospital, and the MMF will match their donation. Those interested can donate to St. Boniface Hospital (choosing Radiothon of Hope and Healing 2020 from the menu) by visiting stbhf.ca/en/donate or calling 204-237-7647.
