Par 3 player wins big with hole in one at Lake Manitoba Resort
August 22, 2024
Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, is pleased to congratulate golfer and Red River Métis Citizen Barry Chartrand on his golden hole in one shot, netting himself an extraordinary $30,000 payout at the Million Dollar Par 3 Shoot Out, which took place at Lake Manitoba Resort on August 17, 2024.
The premium event, sponsored by Métis N4 Construction, offered cash prizes to entrants who shot closest to the pin at each of 18 holes, with a chip off at the end of the day for the two closest pin shots, with a chance to shoot for a million dollars.
Barry Chartrand not only got close to the pin on hole 10, he shot the rarest of shots - a hole in one, from 169 yards away.
"What's been done with the course is phenomenal for us - we have a lot of Red River Métis in Lundar, and we just love golfing at Lake Manitoba Resort," said Red River Métis Citizen Barry Chartrand. "My winning shot was just a bonus - pure luck. I just retired in May at 65 years old, and the winnings will let us pay off our house, which helps us out a lot. I want to say Chris Brown is doing a phenomenal job with the course, and he runs tournaments in a way that is a class act."
"Lake Manitoba Resort held its grand opening on July 11 of this year, as a haven for golf enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable golfing experience situated amidst the picturesque landscapes close to Lake Manitoba," said Jack Park, Metis N4 Construction Chairman. "While none of the players in the resort's most recent tournament were able to net the million-dollar win, Barry's hole-in-one for a purse of $30,000 is a standout."
To Lake Manitoba Resort General Manager, Chris Brown, this is a perfect way to get people talking about the 9-hole course, featuring brand new greens and fairways.
"While par 3 shoot outs are still an underrecognized style of golf tournament in Canada, I have seen a few hole-in-ones take place in shoot outs across the country, but none with as big a payout," said Brown. "I'm excited that this happened so quickly after our grand opening, during a completely sold-out event with a waiting list. I'm anticipating a lot of additional bookings, as golfers are always competitive, and many will be wanting to get more familiar with our course in preparation for next year's tournament."
Lake Manitoba Resort is an Affiliate company of the MMF through its business development arm, Métis Economic Development Organization. The offerings of Lake Manitoba Resort add new and exciting tourism and hospitality amenities to the village of St. Laurent, the region and Manitoba more broadly.
"I congratulate Barry for his extraordinary shot, and for the winnings he'll receive as a result," said David Chartrand, President of the MMF. "The Red River Métis are highly competitive and have a long history of enjoying games of skill and chance. Lake Manitoba Resort is a perfect place for our people, and all Manitobans, to get out and enjoy the beauty of our Homeland, while contributing to the economic well-being of the communities surrounding Lake Manitoba Resort through economic spin-offs. I look forward to shaking Barry's hand, and perhaps competing against him in a future tournament."
