Special Statement by President Chartrand on the passing of Chuck Strahl

August 16, 2024

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, mourns the passing of former Chilliwack, B.C., MP Chuck Strahl, at 67, as announced by his family earlier this week.

Strahl served as an MP for more than 17 years, first elected to the House of Commons in 1993, which led him to win six consecutive elections before he left in 2011.

The MMF remembers Chuck as a man who believed in our cause and included us in conversations, at a time in our history when very few federal politicians had the knowledge and education to understand the unique role of our Nation in Canada's history and in confederation.

He was a man whose beliefs were ahead of their time - a good man, and a friend of our people. I know he will be missed and fondly remembered by all those who had the privilege of working with him.

On behalf of our Cabinet and our Red River Métis Government, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends, and encourage all who believe in the power of prayer to join me in sending our respect and gratitude to Chuck Strahl as he makes his way to his new home.
