As part of Canada's Target 1 Challenge, and the Government of Canada's commitment to conserve 25% of lands and 25% of oceans by 2025, the MMF is working towards establishing an Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area within the Kettle Hills Blueberry Patch, an extremely significant area for the Red River Métis. It is referred to as the "Métis Breadbasket" region because it has sustained the Red River Métis for generations. It has been an integral part of the Métis Homeland since the genesis of the Manitoba Métis.
