Community Health Programming

Overview

Established in 2022, the Community Health Programming initiative was created to enable MMF-HWD to address Red River Métis Citizens' health needs through diverse programs and initiatives tailored to Community needs. Our goal is to tailor health programming to be relevant, accessible, and positively impact the well-being of all Citizens.

Current Initiatives

Prescription Drug Program

Since 2017, Red River Métis seniors and Elders with low income have received help with prescription drugs through the Métis Health Benefits Prescription Drug Program. With support from MEDOCare Pharmacy, the MMF Health & Wellness Department assists our Red RIver Métis Citizens by providing support with medication.

To be eligible, individuals must be Red River Métis Citizens, over the age of 55, and have an income of $35, 000 or less.

Vision Care Initiatives

The Health & Wellness Department offers two types of support through our Vision Care Program in partnership with Prairie Eye Care in Winnipeg:

  • Vision Care Program: This program provides essential vision care services such as eye exams and prescription eyeglasses for eligible Citizens. Eligibility requirements for this program are the same as those for the Prescription Drug Program. To apply, contact your Regional Community Navigator.
  • Red River Métis Preferred Pricing: If you don't qualify for the Vision Care Program, you can still benefit from discounted rates for eye exams and prescription glasses by showing your Red River Métis Citizenship Card at Prairie Eye Care.

Mental Health Initiatives

  • Mental Wellness Support Line: Our Mental Wellness phone line provides free support for Red River Métis Citizens experiencing sadness, stress, or anxiety. Call 1-833-390-1041 ext: 1 for assistance.
  • Grief and Loss Program: Our 8-week program helps Citizens identify and address loss-related emotions and improve relationships. For information or sign-up, call 204-599-0238 or email mentalwellness@mmf.mb.ca.
  • Citizen Support Program: Our program offers emotional support, guidance, and access to resources for Red River Métis Citizens. Our Mental Health Case Coordinator provides confidential assistance and connects Citizens with local services. We can provide information, referrals, and guidance to help Citizens access the resources they need to navigate difficult times.
